Leaving

February 18, 2006 ・ Blog

I had my leaving do from icon on Thursday night. It was a good one, but a little sad – through all the good times, fraught times, pressured times and exciting times we’ve become a close gang and I’ll miss being so close to them, much as the intensity could get painful now and again. Perhaps the measure of my feelings for icon is in the fact that I still haven’t changed my About page. Really big thanks to all there – especially Marcus, Kieran and Justin for their support over the last three years.

Icon had me doing some incredibly interesting things, going incredibly interesting places and meeting incredibly interesting people – and it gave me a lot of freedom to pursue my own enthusiasms. I’ll miss all that massively, too. And I’m already missing the feeling of “being someone”: it’s the best design magazine in the country and one of the best in the world, so it’s hard to relinquish the identity of being part of it.

What have I gone on to do? Something very different: I’m now working for a new magazine by Media 10, icon’s publisher, a consumer lifestyle monthly called 4homes that’s affiliated with all the Channel 4 homes TV programmes. Rather than being on the editorial team, I’m now acting as a liason between the Channel 4 homes website and the magazine, thinking up stuff that can work across the two platforms. There’s a lot to learn and a lot to adjust to. Watch this space for how it pans out.
